Domaine Achillée: Europe's largest straw winery

Discover our innovative, eco-responsible winery, a symbol of our commitment to sustainable viticulture.

A unique straw building in the heart of Alsace

Have you ever seen a building made entirely of straw? Entirely passive? Construction of this unique winery began in July 2016, enabling the family to welcome their first harvest in September.

Ecological Innovation & Sustainable Architecture

Above all, it embodies our commitment to the environment: reducing the use of fossil fuels and favoring natural materials. Our winery required no less than 100 tons of straw for its construction, perfectly reflecting the ideology and philosophy of the Dietrich family.

A space for sharing and exceptional events

With its generous space, our estate naturally becomes a place for sharing and conviviality. We regularly host after-work parties, private events and group tastings. Come and escape to this idyllic setting and reconnect with the simple yet exceptional things in life.

Our architect, Christophe Koeppel, a specialist in bio-sourced materials, designed a 100% ecological building that perfectly matches our vision. No fossil fuels are used for heating or cooling. A simple wood-burning stove in the cellar provides occasional heating with wood and straw. Solar panels, installed on the roof of the 1000 m² machine hall, provide electricity. A rainwater recovery system enables us to collect 50m³ of water for cleaning floors and tanks.

Interestingly, our winery is the largest straw-bale building in Europe, with a surface area of 2323 m²!
